We took a tour of the Great Ocean Road with this company, direct from Geelong, as at that time we couldn’t start the tour in Melbourne due to restrictions. The flexibility shown to fit in with our location, dietary requirements and interests was top notch. It was a real boutique experience and we didn’t feel rushed at any time. We particularly enjoyed the walk through the rainforest and the story behind why it was still standing, that James our guide, described to us.

It felt like being shown around by a local. His knowledge of the area was very impressive. He was very laid back and friendly but still maintained a high degree of professionalism in his driving and making sure we were comfortable throughout the tour. Word of warning though, the one day tour is pretty full on. You need a high degree of stamina to last until the end without dozing off in the back in the car on the way back to Melbourne. If you suffer from ‘tour fatigue’ like my partner, you might be more inclined to take the 2 or 3 day tour. But if you have the energy, you don’t have too many days to spare and you don’t mind a bit of a long car journey, then the one day will be manageable. Just expect to smash out a lot of things in the one day. The one day tour is fast paced and you will probably have a 100+ at the end of it. I took about 126 photos and that is probably about 5 times more than I would normally take on a typical sightseeing day.

A bit more expensive than doing a bus tour but ultimately worth the extra cost for having the tour personalised, going at your own pace and more comfort. A bit disappointed that we had our helicopter flight cancelled due to strong winds, but sometimes these things happy. Better safe than sorry I suppose.

Very quick review as i am waiting to board my plane - excellent tour. Would have like an extra day on the coast to see more things, but it was a rushed visit to see the family, who i haven't seen before covid. Guide was friendly and professional. Would recommend. Sorry but time to fly!!!

We had a great day with this company. Pre-tour, we dealt with James whose communication was immediate and thorough. He gave his honest option on car sickness, which was very accurate. Thankfully his recommendation of what to do worked out well and I got through it in one piece. Word to the wise, you do spend a lot of time in the car on the one day tour so car sickness might be a problem for some people. If this sounds like you and you have the additional day up your sleeve, best to pick their 2 day option. Alas, we only had one day, so we had to bite the bullet. On the day, Aaron was our guide. We got some incredible snaps, as he had a great talent for getting us to great picture spots when there wouldn’t be a lot of people there. I’m not sure if this was by accident or on purpose, but I expect the latter. He was also very knowledgeable about the local flora and fauna and we got to meet his wife en-route and she came out of her house beside the road, to wave to us and to give Aaron his work packed lunch for the day. It was nice to know we were being driven around by a real local. And because he was local, he really did seem to deliver us to some delightfully quiet but equally picturesque spots along the way.

12 hour full day tour review : Negative : It’s a long day out (lots of driving). I didn’t get a bit car sick. Flies, lots of flies (toured in summer) If it’s raining, you still need to get out of the car if you want to see things (no time to wait for the rain to stop....as it might never stop!) Early morning start (not good for jet lag) I would have liked a seafood lunch but we didn’t have time Positive : Guide was great. Really knew the area Flexibility Price (good value compared with others) Car was very comfy and had everything we needed onboard Safe driving (very very very important) All in all, it was a great tour. I think the negatives I listed, you would probably get with any one day tour along the great Ocean Road. In hindsight, I probably should have chosen a 2 day tour, but we were pretty pushed on the timefront. Otherwise it was a very good tour if you remove the inclement weather and the flies.

We’ve taken many tours in many places over the years and this was one of the best. James is very knowledgeable, kind and thinks of everything. He was prompt on any early morning pickup and kept us ahead of the dozens of big buses that travel out each day. Maybe the best surprise was how varied the stops were. You expect to stop at the Ocean Road arch, the Apostles, and Loch Ard Gorge, but we also had a wonderful picnic and short hike in the rainforest and a walk through some wetlands. It’s a long way out to The Apostles but it didn’t feel like it. We also saw kangaroos and koalas in the wild. Plenty of restroom breaks also. If I could give this tour six stars, I would! Thanks James, from all of us!

We had actually contemplated cancelling our tour to Australia due to the current bush fire situation. We have visited Australia twice before, and we do plan to visit again in the future, so it would not have been a massive blow had we missed out on a trip this time round. But we decided last minute to keep to our original plans, although with a little apprehension. James, our tour guide, sent us a pre-tour emai & textl to calm our nerves. He also didn’t hide away from the risk of fires from us and openly explained the situation (little did he know we already knew most of what he told us, due to being fixated to the tv days prior to the tour, watching the situation unfold). Even the fact that he had cancelled a trip the week before, due to risk I guess showed that safety was a primary factor of concern on the tour. During the tour he also checked the routes we were travelling along, to ensure the ways was 100% safe, through the use of a nifty government phone App which he showed us in detail. Having someone who is a local and well prepared in such unforseen events, was just so re-assuring. It helped us put the fire situation to the back of our mind, knowing that he was constantly monitoring the situation, allowing us to concentrate on the actual tour itself. I don’t need to write much about the tour, as from reading previous reviews, everything I wanted to mention has already been covered. But yeah, if you are a little apprehensive about doing a tour during this particular period, Then choosing a company like this may just calm your nerves a little. Thank you for keeping us safe (not that we were really ever at risk in the first place!) and for giving us such a memorable day out. Jo & Don 6th January 2020

In pre-trip communication, James, our guide-driver suggested that we start early to beat the crowd. And we're so glad we did. We stopped at all the designated places stated in the itinerary, I mean really stop, get out of the car, stroll, and take many pictures. James took time to tell interesting stories and we never felt being rushed from one place to another (the main reason I took private tour). There are stops for morning coffee (and delicious scones), lunch (opt for locally-fished scallop pie), and afternoon coffee. The helicopter ride (extra AUD 145 pp) over 12 Apostles added to the excitement for the whole trip. The van is very spacious, comfortable and well-kept. A phone charger is also available. We're glad we chose Great Ocean Road Tours.
